VRTVideoDownloader 1.6

Download VRT video streams (vrtnu.be, een.be, canvas.be, deredactie.be, sporza.be, ketnet.be) to a videofile (windows XP, 7, 8, 10 or higher).

This program downloads VRT video streams (vrtnu.be, een.be, canvas.be, deredactie.be, sporza.be, ketnet.be) to an mp4 videofile. National television station VRT (EEN/Canvas/DeRedactie/Sporza/Ketnet) recently decided to add an extensive bunch of high quality broadcasts to its streaming selection. However, streaming often is slow, tends to have hiccups on unstable connections and the selection isn't forever. Many broadcasts seem to disappear from the site 30 days after initial publication. VRT makes downloading quite easy by using a public JSON API to list up the Transport Stream chunks that contain a broadcast. VRTVideoDownloader queries this API to request the list of chunks, and nicely concatenates all TS-chunks to one usable videofile. And it only takes about 1/10th of the regular "streaming time" to download to file.

Additional for vrtnu.be video's:

If you selected a vrtnu.be Video Source URL, you need to specify a valid MZID that is uniquely related with that URL.

Important: you must have an account at vrtnu.be and be logged in with that account on your Internet browser.
Click on "Get MZID" to get the related MZID (only for vrtnu.be video's). This opens up your Internet browser.
It will show a string like: {"/content/dam/vrt/2017/01/20/ninjanieuws-200117-arvato_3407982":{"mzid":"md-ast-cd52ea40-7cab-4cb1-b8b5-4ce364ad91d5_1484938329516","clientid":"vrtvideo"}}
Locate the label "mzid" and copy its value between quotes (starting with "md-ast-").
Paste the value (without quotes) into the field MZID.

If VRTVideoDownloader does not start, the most common cause is that HTA applications cannot start on your pc, or you have removed Internet Explorer or Edge browser completely from your pc. VRTVideoDownloader uses HTA (Microsoft HTML Application) based on Internet Explorer.
Normally, even when you don't use Internet Explorer or when it is not installed, Microsoft still installs the necessary core files to keep HTA applications working.
If these HTA corefiles are not available on your pc, you can try to fix this as follows:
First check if you have c:\windows\system32\mshta.exe on your pc. If not, try installing at least Internet Explorer 7.
If c:\windows\system32\mshta.exe is available, it could be possible that the link between .hta files and c:\windows\system32\mshta.exe is broken.
To fix this copy the lines below to a file called hta.reg (with notepad), save it and double click it to add these settings to the registry:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
;Open HTA files with MSHTA.EXE
